Toastmasters, Taxis and Marathons

“When you sign up to run a marathon, you don’t want a taxi to take you to the finish line.” – Derek Sivers, Anything You Want

When we signed up for our leadership roles last year, in the Club or in the District, none of us did it to achieve Distinguished Points or to get awards.

We signed up for the possibility to contribute. To make change in people’s lives. And to learn how to lead.

Today, it looks like what seemed to be a relaxed marathon route got some unexpected hills. It looks like it’s covered with sticky mud. And on top of that, it suddenly sports a 20-kilometer detour.

So be it.

We’re in it for the experience. And experience is what we’ve got.

Keep running.
